Welcome and thank you for your interest!
The purpose of this experiment is to learn more about what information can be conveyed by the voice quality itself, even if no words are spoken. You will listen to human nonverbal vocalizations, such as squeals of delight or angry yells, and try to decide which speaker sounds larger.
Find a quiet spot to do this experiment and use headphones. To get a feel for the range of vocalizations in the study, please listen to these 3 examples before you start the experiment. Adjust your headphones to a comfortable sound volume and do not change it during the experiment.
In the actual test you will listen to pairs of vocalizations that only differ in voice quality. For each pair, indicate which person sounds larger. If both vocalizations sound similar, please choose "similar". To play or replay the sounds, click on the images.
